Men's hairstyles in 2026: the cuts Thai men look for most

From rong song to the comma cut: what each one is, and the words to use in the chair.

Men in Thailand search for haircuts more than for almost anything else in beauty. "ทรงผมชาย" (men's hairstyles) is searched about 201,000 times a month, according to Google Keyword Planner (Thailand, October 2025 to September 2026). Here are the cuts behind those searches, the biggest first, and what to say to get each one.

Rong song (รองทรง): high or low

The classic Thai men's cut. The back and sides are cut short and blended up into longer hair on top. The "line" where short meets long decides the name:

  • Rong song sung (รองทรงสูง), high: the short part goes high up the head. Clean, neat, and the most searched men's cut in Thailand (about 74,000 searches a month).
  • Rong song tam (รองทรงต่ำ), low: the short part stops just above the ears, so more hair stays on the sides. Softer, and easier to grow out (about 49,500).

Our guide Rong song high or low has the details and the words to use.

Fades

A fade takes the hair down to very short or to skin with clippers, with no visible line. The low, mid or high fade is named after where it starts. A skin fade goes all the way to the skin; a taper fade only shortens the sideburns and the neckline. "Taper fade" alone is searched about 14,800 times a month in Thailand, and "สกินเฟด" (skin fade) about 12,100. See Fades: skin, taper, low, mid and high.

Short cuts

"ทรงผมชายสั้น" (short men's cuts) gets about 22,200 searches a month, and the skinhead (ทรงผมสกินเฮด) about 8,100. Short all over is quick and cheap to keep: ask for the clipper length in numbers ("เบอร์ 2 all over", for example) so you and the barber mean the same thing.

Korean cuts: comma hair and two-block

The comma sweeps the fringe into a curve like a comma; the two-block keeps the sides short under a longer top that hangs over them, with no blend between the two. Together they are searched about 24,000 times a month in Thailand. Both need some length on top, so grow it out before you ask.

Perms for men

A men's perm (ดัดผมชาย, about 6,600 searches) gives the top texture or a soft wave. A down perm (ดาวน์เพิร์ม) does the opposite on the sides: it flattens hair that sticks out, which many Asian hair types do after a short cut. Perms are done in hair salons more often than in barbershops: check the salon page for "perm" before you go.

Vintage and the side part

The side part and slicked-back cuts (ทรงผมวินเทจ, about 5,400 searches) need a little more length all round and a styling product. Ask for a scissor cut on top and say which side you part on.

How to ask for the cut you want

  1. Show a photo. It beats every word, in Thai or in English.
  2. Say how high the sides go: low, mid or high.
  3. Say how short: to skin, or a clipper number (เบอร์ 0 to 4 are the usual ones).
  4. Say how much off the top, in centimetres or fingers.
  5. Neckline: rounded, square, or tapered.

Questions

Good to know

What is the most popular men's haircut in Thailand?

By Google searches, rong song: the high version is searched about 74,000 times a month in Thailand and the low version about 49,500 times.

How do I ask for a short cut on the sides?

Say how high the short part should go (low, mid or high), whether it should fade to skin, and how much you want off the top. Showing a photo helps more than any word.

How often should I get a haircut?

Cuts with very short sides, like fades and high rong song, look sharp for about two to three weeks. Longer cuts like the comma or a perm can go four to six weeks.
